It is at this stage that the idea for the film is born. The development stage helps the director to create a viable theme, a concept with a synopsis and eventually a script. With the idea of the story, the character sketch, mood, theme, and the description is created. A distributor is consulted to know the type of market for the movie. Once these things are settled, the screenplay is written and the movie is pitched to the producers. The movie concept is also taken to the independent investors, bigwig studios and film council for financial backing.
-
The second stage is the pre-production cycle. All the plans and designs are drawn up. This includes selecting the actors, music artists and other people. The schedule of actual shooting is created and budget is allocated to different departments. Once the cast and crew are selected and assembled, the prep for the movie begins.
-
It is in this stage the movie is actually created. The shooting of the movie involves the setting of props, rigging the lights and placing actors in the respective costumes. The movie is hot roughly and the clips are seen by the cast and crew. This process keeps up the morale of the crew up throughout the production of the movie. Once the shooting finishes and director declares “It’s a wrap”, the cast and crew usually spend next day in the wrap party.
-
In the post-production, the movie is edited and polished. The undesirable screens are either cut or shortened and the music is mixed and the voices are synchronized. Special effects are added and the credits are included in the beginning and end phase. The final cut on the movie is ready for distribution and printing. - Distribution
The distribution stage not only involves releasing movies in the theatre but also the promotion of movies through press releases, film festivals and showings.
